It's not necessarily because of that. Just look at the economy today, prices need to be increased to keep up with growing costs. It's actually not that bad either, if you're already a member it doesn't effect you.

actually after thinking about it for a while, it might be a measure to combat goldfarmers, by increasing their costs.
